&Walsh

Full typographical logo

At first, I was a little underwhelmed by the new identity from &Walsh – the new design agency ran by Jessica Walsh.

&Walsh Ampersand

The bevels and overly exaggerated serifs on the ampersand just didn’t really do much for me.

Secondary ampersands

But as the story unfolds behind the new brand – Jessica previously worked for 6’u years as a partner with Stefan Sagmeister, aka Sagmeister & Walsh – the relevance and personality of the ampersand comes through.

Ampersand IRL

When you start to see how the brand can be utilised in real life with real materials, you can start to see how powerful it works in suitable 3D environments, truly demonstrating the elegance and sass of a strong ampersand.

I do love a good ampersand.

The Internet Xmas

Freelancers don’t generally get Christmas parties but, if you can get to Shoreditch in London on 18th December, a number of fine web folk (including organiser Luke Murphy) are hosting and attending The Internet Xmas – plus all proceeds are going to Shelter.

It’s an oldie but a goodie: Ian Storm Taylor reminds designers to never use black, pulling on lessons from his school teacher and real world examples (back in 2012).
